Regulated activity

Taxi work in French Polynesia is a regulated activity. It requires two distinct titles:

  • a stand authorisation (autorisation de stationnement), issued by the mayor of the relevant commune under police powers;
  • an operating licence and an authorisation to practise, issued by the Country through the Land Transport Directorate, for a given island — one vehicle corresponding to one licence.

Fares

Taxi fares are regulated by the Country, not set freely by the driver: the Council of Ministers sets maximum fares. The table applied is that of order no. 1540 CM of 6 September 2023 setting the maximum taxi fares in French Polynesia (JOPF no. 73 of 12 September 2023). Amounts are in Pacific francs (XPF), tax included; only the regulated extras shown on the Fares page are added. Prices displayed and amounts calculated by the estimator are indicative estimates based on that table and on reference road distances. The final price is the one on the meter at the end of the ride: it depends on the actual route, traffic, waiting time and luggage. A receipt is given to any customer who asks for one.

Booking

A request sent from this website — form, WhatsApp or phone — is a booking request. It is not a confirmation. The ride is confirmed by the driver, by a return call or message. No payment is taken on this website: settlement is made directly with the driver, in cash (Pacific francs or US dollars).

Intellectual property

The structure of the website, its texts, graphic identity, illustrations and photographs are protected. Any reproduction or reuse, in whole or in part, without prior written consent is prohibited. Trademarks and logos mentioned belong to their respective owners.

Map backgrounds come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL licence), served by OpenFreeMap (© OpenMapTiles), and from Esri’s World Imagery satellite imagery (Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, and the GIS User Community). The estimator’s place search relies on Photon (komoot), built on OpenStreetMap data. Ride times and distances are calculated with OSRM. The home-page map may be displayed by Google Maps: trademarks, maps and data remain the property of Google LLC.

Applicable law

This website and the information it contains are subject to the law applicable in French Polynesia. In the event of a dispute, and failing an amicable settlement, the competent court is the Tribunal de première instance of Papeete, subject to any mandatory rules protecting consumers.
